Three Word Wednesday

A holiday of familiar cliches
the sting of the sun
feet that falter walking on sand
the breeze gently touching
what is real and what is imaginary
emotion falling into line
behind the painted billboards

  1. Oh, I love these lines:
    'the breeze gently touching
what is real and what is imaginary
    emotion falling into line
    behind the painted billboards'

There is so much truth here, what is real and what is imaginary and also the feelings we hide behind the painted facade.
    Wonderful piece. :)

  3. It's the painted billboards that does it for me. Along with the sand and breezes they evoke a touristy summer for me.

  5. Imaginary emotion behind painted billboards is cryptic and interesting.

  7. There is a sense of weariness in this 'holiday'..painting on a smile..and putting on a pair of shorts can't quite change what's inside..also love the thought of the 'real' message being on the backs of billboards..jae

  9. In reading this a number of times I could feel the uncertainty what with the sting, the falter and the imaginary. Then I realised how much I too felt this way as a teenager so many years ago as I was loosening family ties and experiencing life on my own with all my hopes and dreams ahead of me. A great piece to read and reread.

  10. I like this a lot - 'feet that falter walking on sand' and the addition of billboards is brilliant.

  11. This sounds like what often happens when one tries to escape any more: the familiar cliches and billboards, keeping one from truly escaping.
