Oblivious

The elephant in the room
stands majestically by the fireplace
her tiny eyes beaming at us
her trunk supine
her tufted tail swings slightly
I watch her
enthralled
Soon she begins to gently sway
as if to music only she can hear
She seems calm, impassive,
unconcerned
with our bickering presence
I try to mimic her repose
You
on the other hand are
oblivious

  3. Oh, perfect. I didn't even think of "the elephant in the room" and the way you draw the contrast here is so satisfying.

  4. Nice! I love the contrast between the two people and the weighty presence of the elephant.

  5. Oh, I could have used her presence earlier today...calming and larger than life...drowning out silly-ness-infuriating-ness. Resonates.

  7. I love it... this feeling that everyone else is oblivious is so perfect for that elephant that everyone sees but pretend is invisible.. Love how she just stands there (I can almost imagine her in a cocktail dress)

  8. Superbly written - i love the acknowledgement of the elephant - she can become a good friend in a landscape of people's obliviousness
