Moon Walk

We walk the summer path, hand in hand. The moon is full; it's ancient face peers down at us. Watching. The field around us is luminescent; silhouetted critters scurry as we come near. We are silent; our world is silent; on the precipice of change. It's to be our last night together. You have been deployed.

Silver moon waning
all below is quickening
leaving life to chance

  1. Sigh... such a beautifully emotive write, Linda. The haibun leaves us with so much to think about, to wonder what would happen next and what would be the fate of those two lovers. Thank you so much for participating at Prompt Nights and for your constant love and support :D :D

    Lots of love,
    Sanaa

  2. Ellecee, this haibun is served up just right. Enough atmosphere in the text and a surprising conclusion in your haiku

  4. I use to think (watching old movies) sending a husband or boyfriend off to war was so romantic and tragic. Then I sent my son off and I realized it is only tragic. He came back, thank the Lord, but so many didn't and don't. Your poem speaks to the terrible specter of separation.

  6. The sadness and apprehension is there as an undercurrent to the romantic scene. Beautifully written.

  7. Your piece is just so beautiful, even though pensive. I can imagine this special moon walk you present, and may it not be the last!

  8. What a heartbreaking moment. Goodness, how I remember those per-deployment nights... We wanted to say so much... do so much... hold so much as close to heart and memory as possible, because you never know.

The prose squeezes the heart, and your haiku is just perfect. Such wonderful imagery.
