Remnant

"One can live without having survived." Carolyn Forche

Supplicating among them
unobserved
wallowing on concrete
who will see her
anyone?

Hunger eats the heart out
thirst fogs the brain
life a remnant

Scorn drips from
a hundred feet
shod in ignorance

Apathetic to pain
she drifts out
and away

leaving them behind

  8. This is who we are now collectively sadly. People in trouble/difficulty are invisible. Powerful poem.
