Morning

Surrounded by the mist of morning
I sit on deck of the "Matthew"
sipping coffee from a tin mug
wrapped in a hand towel to
protect my hands from burning
but thin enough for me to feel
the heat penetrating to the palms
of my hands
I hear the sound of small splashes
as the early birds dive beneath the
bay's surface for their morning meal
and once in awhile their muffled
messages reach me
sweet sounds in the mist
As the boat rocks me like a cradle
I am at peace and unhurried
Until the sun burns away our cover
the bay, the "Matthew", the birds
and me
are content
to be

  1. Sigh... this is beautifully haunting, Linda :D especially enamored with the images of "the sound of small splashes as the early birds dive beneath the bay's surface for their morning meal and once in awhile their muffled messages reach me." Thank you so much for participating at Prompt Nights and for your constant love and support :D

    Lots of love,

  5. Those silent, swaddled moments of safety mean so much in world that can feel so unsafe and tenuous - what a wonderful thing to share with us..may there be many more moments like it for you

  6. The imagery of the last five lines is so vivid that I can feel the sun on my face as it eats through the morning fog. You've capture a living moment.

  8. Oh wow, Ellecee! Outstanding morning image both in words and the picture. How sweet is that moment, "sipping coffee from a tin mug...and sounds of early birds dive beneath" precious.

  10. Must be wonderful to be on the water as you have opportunity to do. I was raised to be able to be close enough to often swim in the ocean in California but raised family in Washington. I love the ocean and miss it. Beautiful Imagery.
