Holiday Spirits

 

She sometimes thinks

(after each holiday)

that signs of them should 

remain all year through

Christmas lights hanging

on curtains,

A green hat on a peg

Easter eggs on the bookshelves

and odes to Mother

and little Canadian flags,

and imitation turkeys

and, and,

Thus to keep the holiday spirits

 living throughout the entire year

Except

it doesn’t

Decisions

 

She has been numb

for a long time

Hours and hours spent

doomscrolling the chaos

surrounding every one 

and every thing

Like the old saying

“ hitting yourself on your

head because it feels so

good when you stop”

STOP she tells herself

She tries ,Gleefreshing

Scrolling all the happiness 

that’s happening in the

world, in someone else’s

world, not her world

One day there is an accident

and her leg is broken

She is shocked awake,

not numbed to her pain,

For a brief period of time

no doomscrolling no

gleefreshing

This is her real world

The present

The now

Will she stay?

 contemplating her next move
overwhelmed by the beauty
surrounding her
she holds tight to the view
her body in stasis
Seeds of thoughts surfacing
decisions, decisions
there is only one way down
- dive -
Or stay forever 
slowly becoming a minute particle
of this stunning crag
her precipice
her
choice
