Poetic Justice

Good Universe Next Door

It was her engagement party

Not her first

She thought it had taken

a lot of courage to say

yes a second time

His and her friends were milling

about,  drinks and snacks in hand

The talking reminding her of

a cockatiel convention

Her girlfriend’s husband patted

her finance on the back saying,

loud enough for all to hear,

“Congrats man, wouldn’t be my

choice but I’ll bet she’ll be great once

you get past the used part”

There was a noticeable moment of quiet

She felt struck, overwhelmed,  ashamed,

angry,

What right had he to be so crude and in

front of all their friends too

Bastard

She touched his arm, smiled and

addressed the room in general,

“Don’t pay him any mind, he’s just jealous

‘cause he’s erectile dysfunctional,

Aren’t you honey”

The group broke out in raucous laughter,

Retaliation was hers

Why did she feel

so crummy?

6. Poetic Justice

 Start a poem with someone

 (maybe even you) saying the

wrong thing (maybe even a terrible

thing) and let the draft deliver some

kind of poetic justice… even if it’s

imaginary.

Let the poem carry intense emotion,

like rage or shame.

Angst

She lay quietly listening

for the latch to open

Her anxiety mounting

as each hour passed

His steak was over cooked

Nothing one could change

He threw his plate

into the garbage

He pushed her aside

and left

Her relief was short-lived

He would be drinking,

his animosity building

All his small resentments

morphing into monumental

insults

worthy of retributive justice

She should take flight,

hide

but where?

A woman in a war zone

alone in the darkness

 of night

Drone

Drone

(a person who does no useful work and lives off others

This is you

insinuating yourself

into her circle

Charm is your weapon

used to advantage

Insidious

Impudent to others

as you

confiscate her life

I see you

I recognize you

I will intercept you

Inevitably

Enigmatic

Imagine me
  gamine
a tinge manic
anti-gaming
taming an iceman
in magic meaning
An enigma
I meant it
A magnetic man
acting the gnat
incaging me
an act
a game
I am a gamin
I ignite icemen
I eat magi
I get mine
Amen

Voices

 I lie awake as
voices disappear
into the ether
Not a breath remains
only the memory
A dreadful torrent
of creeping insects
insidiously advancing
across my cerebral plane
I rise to rediscover anger
The dead corpses of past affairs
alter the flow of ink
from my reluctant pen
impelling evanescent magic
to live on parchment
Disinclined
to fade away

So Be It

You play the clown
without joy or passion
you create this
tall, sullen, melancholic man
to stand between us
Words don’t reach you
as if a void exists
instead of this monster
you’ve created for
your own
pitiful
indulgence

Does your helmet deflect
my words as well?
Do you need armour
to approach me?

So be it
I walk away
and leave you
alone
with your
abject
 miseries

The End

I awoke bereft. Something or someone had died. I struggled to remember who or what it was. There was a breeze outside; the curtains were fan tailing into the room. Gently, all the way in, all the way back.  The house seemed very quiet, I heard none of the usual morning sounds. I didn’t want to remember. We had quarreled about something insignificant. I threw his precious paperweight and it had broken. It shattered before our eyes and we were shocked into silence. But not remorse. “take no prisoners” came into my mind. No turning back.

Rage accosts the soul
overwhelming the senses
as illusions fall
