Romantic Love

Romantic love

A memory

A refrain from the past

Blending bitter with sweet

magnolia blossoms and icicles

ardent rhetoric and screams

soft sighs and magnificent lies

Should you go there again

remember the dream

forget the scheme

Entrances

Your entrances are gaudy
and colourful
You dance outside my window
playing the fool
Gesturing
as touches are forbidden
Your sweet breath on my cheek
decreed a danger
April springs forth without warmth
but still I laugh
My beautiful fool
entrancing me
Untouchable
but so real

Meetings

"You look young for your age"
he says and
She laughs out loud
and says
"not really"
and then he wonders
what she means and
he's not sure now
if they should meet
after all
but if he says so
what will his excuse be?
since he's been acting
so eager
and then she says
"are you there?"
and he says
"Yeah
how about the Sylvia
on Sunday
at three"

What to do?

I’ve walked this
street one hundred
times before
breathed deeply
the scent of cherry
blossoms in spring,
the cool fall breeze
has caressed my skin
as fallen leaves rustled
at my feet.
Through winter wonderlands
and summer heat, sultry and
moist,
I have walked here

Then  I met you,
a chance encounter
you were lost, walking down
the wrong street, looking for
the wrong house, not my house;
You smiled at me, reached out
and touched my arm;
Destiny sang, karmic, cosmic,
coincidences collided in colours

of every hue
What to do?

What to do?

Found Poem

The Wasteland -   I. The Burial of the Dead  - t s elliot

April is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
Winter kept us warm, covering
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers.
Summer surprised us, coming over the Starnbergersee
With a shower of rain; we stopped in the colonnade,
And went on in sunlight, into the Hofgarten,
And drank coffee, and talked for an hour.
Bin gar keine Russin, stamm’ aus Litauen, echt deutsch.
And when we were children, staying at the arch-duke’s,
My cousin’s, he took me out on a sled,
And I was frightened. He said, Marie,
Marie, hold on tight. And down we went.
In the mountains, there you feel free.
I read, much of the night, and go south in the winter.

April is
breeding lilacs
mixing
memory and desire
A little life
surprised us
a shower of rain
We stopped in the colonnade
Drank coffee
and talked
much of the night

Write a free verse poem using words
chosen from T S Elliot's "The Wasteland"

Heart of Trillium

Sweet face of Spring
this fairy hidden
amidst petals
her tiny smile
illuminates
our
hope
for
new beginnings

Fait Accompli

He was a stranger
for a short time
He moved quickly
into her closed circle
discovered a small crack
in the perimeter
He knew what secrets
she waited to hear
He learned her tender spots
her fear of life
He made it possible
for her
 to be
Fait accompli

Corporeal Knowledge

The bitter taste of
sacrificial wine
the Eucharist of
love
Blasphemy!!
you say
Not so
Not so for the
many who find
in the body
of their
beloved
the elixir
of life.

Queen of the Night

As twilight moves away
and darkness engulfs me with its
solemn breath
you come to me
and we open ourselves to
one another
our skin soft and delicate
as exotic kadupuls
blooming
beginning
and
end

On The Todd

If by some feat or miracle
I was given a day off
in the middle of the week
Would I sleep late, nestled
with you under cover of a
single cotton sheet
my front cool from the breeze
through the open window
my back hot from the exchange
of our bodies' heat
back to front

Or would I leave you as usual
and walk, not to work, but
instead follow along the dry
river bed, finding myself a cool
grass cushion under the shade
of an old wizened tree
and there take my pen and paper
and trace our body angles and
our uneven breath in phrases
floating across the page

Our unspoken wishes appearing as
small strokes and short lines
which turn eventually to a fine dust
like the ashes left after
a fire has died

Mist

What remains
ethereal about the
mist
the soft moisture
left
from a casual

Ghosts

You are
familier
to me
we are
ghosts
from another
time
ancient memories
surface
long forgotten
sensations
hands on hands
arms and bodies
entwined
a passionate
embrace
breathing in
our essence
exhaling
heat
that touches
our bodies
a desert
breeze
we have been
entwined
before
this I
understand
deep
deep
within me
lies a
memory
of you
as you
so
familiar

The Veteran

She is
thinking of him
the veteran

relic
of many
shooting wars

the man who is
tall enough
strong enough
erect enough
lean enough

the man with
large hands
made gentle
when
loving

the man whose
mouth thirsts
for scotch
and rum

and

sometimes

for her

About Love

I often
wonder
what I will
remember most
when all is said
and done
About love
I mean
in general
and about you
in particular
The anger,
the frustration
that seemed
constant
The never ending
need
The mad emotions
that fuelled
a life
running on
empty.

Or will it be
the words
all the
beautiful
words
in all the poems
written on bits
of paper
Fading now
difficult to read
Needing to be
rescued
so that they will
live
forever
burned onto
CD's

Frenetic Two

Oh frenetic two
where are you?
Flown away out
into the wilderness
of blue
T'would be such
a rich sorrow
in some distant
tomorrow
to hang once again
on such
a sweet rack
of pain.

Oblivious

In this world
of illusion
she treads
lightly
leaving no
footprints
no scent
to be
picked up
by marauding
packs of
coniferous
beasts
hungry
for
her
She lies down
in tall,
sweet smelling,
blue grass
and listens
to the sound
of
the wind
as it moves
over her
hiding place
touching her
gently
like a mother's
kiss
on her child's
cheek
She lies
quietly
feeling
the earth
beneath her
breathing
with an
ancient
rhythm
a subtle,
sweet,
massage
constant
and
penetrating
She feels
safe
protected

oblivious

A Man

She tolerated his
"Export A" kisses
His inept fingers
on her inner thigh,
and all the
various and sundry
inaction
which he described
as
making love;
because she knew
that
he had been
a man
once

While You're Away

While you’re away
I want to write you a letter
and tell you how it is
How I am
keeping busy at work
and I go to the pub
on Friday night
I clean the house
on Saturday
do laundry
I read
most of Sunday
sitting up in bed
mug of coffee handy
I start over
in the new week
Sometimes I
go to a movie
on Wednesday night
chick flick
I cry
during the sad parts
and
I want to write you a letter
to tell you how it is

The Last Romance

the last
romance
came by chance
the next
they say
could be far away
beyond years
beyond fears
beyond tears

maybe it’s just me
who can’t see
beyond the surface
maybe it’s just me
who can’t see
a lot of purpose
maybe it’s just me
out on a limb
with
the Brothers Grimm

not to go back
no, not that.

to go forward
with style
perhaps
 a smile
across the abyss

something
like
this
