Launched

In January, 1944

the Siege of Leningrad was lifted,

Allied troops bombed Berlin,

the first Victory ship was launched,

and so was she.

Bursted out screaming, pushed by

haemorrhaging,

Stuck in the womb

they said,

Unable to float for the last month

they said

Swaddled immediately.

To ease the terror

they said

Mother overwhelmed,

packed for the bleeding,

floating away,

A blessing,

they said

Mother and child survived,

they said

27. What goes up but never
 comes down?
Your age. 🤣 Terrible jokes aside,
ages and aging make great poetry
fodder. Write a poem about a specific
year in your life. It can be an age that
has passed and is memorable or one
that’s to come that you may be dreading
or hope to embrace. /

Angst

She lay quietly listening

for the latch to open

Her anxiety mounting

as each hour passed

His steak was over cooked

Nothing one could change

He threw his plate

into the garbage

He pushed her aside

and left

Her relief was short-lived

He would be drinking,

his animosity building

All his small resentments

morphing into monumental

insults

worthy of retributive justice

She should take flight,

hide

but where?

A woman in a war zone

alone in the darkness

 of night

The Sum of all Grief

The sum of all grief

arrives at the end

of a life

The sum of all

deaths

Siblings,husbands, friends

children

The sum of all

faculties lost

Hearing, eyesight, balance,

cognitive thinking

The sum of all hope

for recognition, inclusiveness,

new love, empathy

The sum of all pain

physical, emotional, visual

The sum of all desires

a lifetime of them

met and unmet

These and more

always present in

her mind

The sums of a lifetime

the sum of all grief

 What constitutes a better world?
Amid angst, and fear, and chicanery
Take my hand and show me

Truce

We are warring

Such hostility

All the energy

fuelling our intimacy

redirected

to painful chicanery.

We take no prisoners

Nor bury  our dead

Within this non-abating cyclone

love is literally dying

all our dreams

decaying.

Please

Please

Before there’s

 no returning

Let Go

“MY IMMORTAL,” WRITTEN BY BEN MOODY.

Let go

I, too, am tired of being here
You’re holding way past time for letting go
You don’t look forward but only behind
Lost tears, lost fears, all gone,
No hand to hold
Wake up you ARE alone
I want to fly, have my release
from all past pain and sacrifice
I’ve earned my peace
and so have you
Let go the pain, let go your fears
let go regret, life is yours to take
You must understand it’s
you who’s holding on
You are the only one in my way
Your way
Give up, give in, sweep everything
clean, start anew,
I want to fly, I want to soar,
I want to hear the music, see
the light, if such exist
I may never know
 while tethered here
I’ll over rule your life
and you are stealing my awakening
Now you are enlightened,
Now you know
So let me go

My Surrender

Chrissie Hynde wrote this with Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg,

This poem is in response

My Surrender

I can’t believe you love me
The reason that I cry
I’m afraid to have you hold me
In case I have to let you go
I have nothing to confess, unless,
I love you, I love you
No one ever cared, no one
ever said the kind of words you say
I have nothing to hide, unless,
I love you, I love you
I want to give in
Oh but I do
I want you to come along
and walk a mile with me
And so, just you and me,
I’d never be alone
No one’s ever said they’d
guard  me, keep me from
harm’s way,
No one’s ever said, the kind
of words you say
I want to give in,
Oh but I do
Will you take my hand
I want to give in
Because I love you,
I love you

Going

I see the signs
every day
your favourite books
disappearing
Your soccer shoes
your skis
your winter coat
your signed photo
of  B. B. King
your vinyl
the beer mug you stole.
fromThe Nag’s Head
You think I don’t notice
such small things
mementos  of your life
Nothing of me
no match for you
