Mrs. Folks

Diminutive woman

Reluctant mother

Widow

Forced through chaos
to awareness

Growing toward autonomy

Nineteenth century dignity

pitted against

twentieth century crass

Bridging the gap

Sometimes frightened

Often lonely

Branching out

Determined to do life well

Pioneer spirit

In her groove

Frenetic Two

Oh frenetic two
where are you?
Flown away out
into the wilderness
of blue
T'would be such
a rich sorrow
in some distant
tomorrow
to hang once again
on such
a sweet rack
of pain.

Night Light

The street light
filters through the
tiny openings in
the window shade
forming intricate
patterns on the walls
within
I lie on my bed and
contemplate the
beauty of
small things
The art of awareness
as a slow dance
over time
Sifting through all
of life’s events
to find the
memories
that endure.

Seasonal Love

Do we come back around
like the seasons?

The rich juices of  Spring
filling our veins with
 old longings?

This time for planting seeds
available only to
ancient souls such as
ourselves.

Summer bringing the
hope of a
rich harvest
Days mellow with
expectation,
waiting
for fruition.

Fall bringing
what?
Not the promised
result?

The fruit is not
sweet enough,
the size is smaller
than desirable,

not the best colour,
not the expected
yield?

What kind of garden
have we left, how
much loss is there?

Winter coming in
with its deep chill,
cold winds blow,
the sun is low on
the horizon

No succor available
for parched egos,
Go away, go away

There is silence
The cold, cold silence
of winter creating a
pall over our
landscape.

Is it death or
hibernation?
Is it over?

 Or
merely, as always,
and to be expected,
the changing of
seasons.

About Love

I often
wonder
what I will
remember most
when all is said
and done
About love
I mean
in general
and about you
in particular
The anger,
the frustration
that seemed
constant
The never ending
need
The mad emotions
that fuelled
a life
running on
empty.

Or will it be
the words
all the
beautiful
words
in all the poems
written on bits
of paper
Fading now
difficult to read
Needing to be
rescued
so that they will
live
forever
burned onto
CD's

Oblivious

In this world
of illusion
she treads
lightly
leaving no
footprints
no scent
to be
picked up
by marauding
packs of
coniferous
beasts
hungry
for
her
She lies down
in tall,
sweet smelling,
blue grass
and listens
to the sound
of
the wind
as it moves
over her
hiding place
touching her
gently
like a mother's
kiss
on her child's
cheek
She lies
quietly
feeling
the earth
beneath her
breathing
with an
ancient
rhythm
a subtle,
sweet,
massage
constant
and
penetrating
She feels
safe
protected

oblivious

He is Growing on Her

He is
growing on her
In the morning
when she rises
to gaze at
her a.m. face
she sees a film
growing there
a fine fuzz
covers her cheeks
her ears
her chin;
moss
new
and soft
It possesses her
and will
move downward
no doubt
and cling to
shoulders,
breasts,
and such,
her warm
blanket
for all
the cold nights
that follow
germination
time

Corporal Knowledge

Corporal knowledge,
the bitter taste of
sacrificial wine
the Eucharist
of love
Blasphemy!!!
you say.
Not so
Not so say
the many
who find
in the body
of their
beloved
the elixir
of life

Meetings

At times of their choosing they
travel to a meeting place
beyond the restrictions of their
every day world

In silence they drift toward
each other and lie quietly
floating and dreaming together
of yet to be discovered
days of wonder

She touches him and her body
comes alive, awakened from a long
self-imposed exile and she marvels
at how her senses
never forget

They are comforted and sated and
filled to the brim with old emotions
made new through this discovery
of a shared vision
intense and personal

They stay in this place for as long
as their minds allow, until the ordinary
world infringes again and returns
them to the duties
of the every day

Except now these gifts remain
just within reach
the body and spirit are
mellowed
from the memory of their meeting
and they rest
in that joy

A note: These last two poems of mine are really old but when I encounter them again they bring back
memories and a sense of  an endearing history, something special to share again.

Contact

She is the one haunting
and the haunted,
the chalice and the wine,
the lover
and the beloved
the singer and the song

Because he can come to her
only in dreams
she feels their roles merge,
separate, merge again,
their energy moves, mingles,
passes away

A spiral downward into an abyss,
a deep cavern
echoing with the sounds
of joy
