A setback
she didn't foresee,
the first alone,
Watershed
She writes her memories
in a cardboard covered notebook
fireflies in the moonlight
footprints from overshoes
sunlit days on highway drives
their lifeblood lovers
Backdrop/children
noisemakers underfoot
Her onetime taleteller
gone underground
How many hours
does the timekeeper give?
Before she can join
her sidekick
again

The word challenge for our month of April Madness is to use compound words in constructive and imaginative ways.
Day 6
This is sad but a wonderful use of compound words. I like it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful poem Linda. I am left utterly speechless..!!
ReplyDeleteLots of love,
Sanaa
Waiting, waiting. Glad she is writing it all down while she waits.
ReplyDeleteA sad little tale, Linda, repeated often. Well written, clever use of the word "Watershed" It also happens with divorce except there didn't come with the 'underground' and generally not the kids with the guy. But that probably makes it worse, not having the kids (very often). Been the later except better because the kids were with a LOT.
ReplyDelete..
This seems to me to suggest a life that has been interrupted by life... I can relate to that feeling.
ReplyDeleteThat watershed is not one we wish for... hope there are sidekicks to be found again.
ReplyDeleteI see those "fireflies in the moonlight," especially. A lovely image captured.
ReplyDeleteI love the way in which she writes her memories, the things that appear on the pages of her notebook, the way her attention goes from one thing to another, but in the end, she's just marking time... until things turn back to her kind of normal again.
ReplyDeleteOh, very nicely crafted! And I think many of us will relate to what you describe.
ReplyDeleteThe backdrop kids...that gets me. Well written.
ReplyDeleteOh those interruptions...I can't write with a backdrop of noise. Great write!
ReplyDeleteThe first alone - it seems so very uncomfortable - notebooks are friends and yet the cardboard seems tough..maybe with use it will soften and be a gentle and welcome companion - beautifully written
