Anticipation

She walks in the wood

and twigs snap

small critters scurry

her dog gives chase

the morning is sultry

mist on the lake

a pair of loons

skimming the surface

no sun

no wind

temperature rising

anticipation too

Returning to the cabin

I embrace the silence

in the presence of an old friend

joining me for coffee

in front of the fire

As the heat rises

dust floats aimlessly

above our heads

carrying thoughts

of our lost time
