"The lunatic, the lover and the poet are of imagination all compact"
A Midsummer Night's Dream - William Shakespeare
The bard of past sorrows
and magnificent words
inspires me so
A lunatic, a lover, and
a poet
a self-portrait written
in words I could not
muster on my own
To confess the elements
of my being
rest assured
my hesitancy
is solid
If it is in imagination only
that these three are joined
then I can still hide
unidentified
"ellecee"
Day 23
That line always strikes me as being especially profound!

Ah, charming. We are all some or all three to be writing so much this month! Thanks. K.
ReplyDeleteI think you have pinpointed the trinity of poetry so well.
ReplyDeleteHeehee. This is so profound, and I love the voice you've chosen to relay it. One of my favorite quotes, also.
ReplyDeleteI like how you took his quote and incorporated it into your own poem so seamlessly!
ReplyDeleteWell said! (Both of you.)
ReplyDeleteA powerful poem, acknowledging the perspectives of a poet and the bard of all poets.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm... are we what we imagine ouselves to be (or not to be ) ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love this one. Just love it, and that quote of course. I don't think I could live without A Midsummer Night's Dream :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a thought provoking exploration of that quote!
