rocking chairs

a shaded porch

strong arms encircling

tender hands comforting

gathering cod from seines

beach fires

indiscriminate dancing

cool sheets, warm breath

laughter

midnight cigarettes

babes in arms

blue pills, dark rum

IV drips

held hands

tears

thunder storms, lightning strikes

post calm

ploughed earth

parsnips

dahlia, lupin

snow on the back field

pink dawn

joy

remorse

my life

our ballad

on and on

then

gone

inspires me so

a poet

a self-portrait  written

in words I could not

muster on my own

To confess the elements

of my being

rest assured

my hesitancy

is solid

If it is in imagination only

that these three are joined

then I can still hide

no drama

Who would you turn to for solace.

for passion, for succor?

Who would you argue with,

debate life’s issues with,

win battles for and against?

Who would hold you, defend you,

stand by you?
