The Biggest Crime

The biggest crimes take

place in childhood

The innocent fall prey

to the acts and foibles

of those who

supposedly care the most

Do care for them the most 

but they, too, simply

imitate postures and

ideas perpetuated on them

Guileless children exploited

 terrified 

or thrilled

Endless confusion

Children perceiving and accepting

false values, prejudices,

hierarchies, lack of self worth

Taught to be the future bullies,

spoilers, codependents

and shamed

And so it continues

The biggest crime

Abuse of children

But 

not ALL children

Oh my dear friend 

This hold she has

is  perilous for you

You are a trapeze artist

teetering on a blade’s edge

Oh my dear friend

What ways are they that

 demonstrate her love

Closed fists, fire, anger, blood,

How is that clean?

Oh my dear friend

You want it, all of it 

Because she shows you

she is yours, it’s worth it

Time after time

Oh my dear friend

If only you could fathom

the need to let her go

But pain is addictive

And love is so, 

    so,

        blind
