The Sum of all Grief

The sum of all grief

arrives at the end

of a life

The sum of all

deaths

Siblings,husbands, friends

children

The sum of all

faculties lost

Hearing, eyesight, balance,

cognitive thinking

The sum of all hope

for recognition, inclusiveness,

new love, empathy

The sum of all pain

physical, emotional, visual

The sum of all desires

a lifetime of them

met and unmet

These and more

always present in

her mind

The sums of a lifetime

the sum of all grief

Rubble

All gone asunder

Nothing left

except regrets

Her best friends

have all died

Her siblings too

Her beloved pet

She is alone to

reflect on not one

but three messed

marriages

Bad choices? Or

femininity overkill

She was beautiful,

turned heads

Now she isn’t

and heads don’t

Too much vanity?

She wasted money

She drank

Loved to gamble,

rarely won

Loved to shop,

Clothes horse

Was not debt free

until too late

for purchasing dreams

Too greedy?

Selfish?

Unfocused?

Naive?

She could go on

but doesn’t

She simply sits

Disgruntled

amidst the

rubble

of her life

Epitaph

Here lies

Sally Neddy

Born February 1944

Died February 2024

A woman who tried

Right on 80

Who’d of thought it

Her death wasn’t easy

Her life neither

come to that

She liked to drink

and laid around some

Couldn’t blame her

really, the husband

was scum

She leaves four living kids

Well adults really

Grandkids too

She did her best

should ignore the rest

Had no schooling that

was the problem

Couldn’t get good jobs and

it was hard going

She held up a good front

Not many were knowing

the things she had to,do

just to get through

She was a good friend

to me, the let downs

were few,  betrayals too,

But she still came through

when my times were rough

She’d hold my hand and

that was enough

Here lies

Sally Neddy

A woman who tried

and then she died

The Biggest Crime

The biggest crimes take
place in childhood
The innocent fall prey
to the acts and foibles
of those who
supposedly care the most
Do care for them the most
but they, too, simply
imitate postures and
ideas perpetuated on them
Guileless children exploited
 terrified
or thrilled
Endless confusion
Children perceiving and accepting
false values, prejudices,
hierarchies, lack of self worth
Taught to be the future bullies,
spoilers, codependents
and shamed
And so it continues
The biggest crime
Abuse of children

But

not ALL children

Praise be

Why I Write

I am an introvert

I live,primarily, in

my head

I have difficulty

communicating

Socialization is not

my strong point

Not something I was

taught as a child,

or discovered later

Still and all,  living thoughts

demand liberation

They chastise me

So, I write them down

and look at them

exposed to light

Some of them frighten me,

or enlighten me, or make me

listen, or make me see

Out in the open they often

pose a question

in order to quiz me

Some become a story told,

most birth poetry

Some I release to others,

strangers mostly

Family are iffy, though

no judgement is there

Sometimes I stop

but never for very long,

and

Those I can’t bear to share,

I scribble

secretly
