He was the one
Handsome and entitled
he could have anyone
She would play hard to get
Not clutch his pant leg
as others were prone to do
Not flirt and flatter endlessly
She, the remote one,
would capture his delight
Her mystery would draw him in
Being elusive would beguile him
into her surreptitious snare
He was attentive and obliging
eager to relate
Then married someone else
a damsel in distress
a Cinderella type
She is salty with remorse
how could this be?
That yet again, for her,
“the best laid schemes
o’mice an’ men
gang aft agley”

Love how you used the line from Burns!
ReplyDeleteSometimes we wish for things not knowing that something even better is in store for us 💘
ReplyDeleteOh the blessing of an unanswered wish...
ReplyDeleteAh well, the follies of youth. It takes a long time to learn that it 's best to be oneself.
