Who Knows

Weekend gridlock takes toll on Halifax bridge traffic

Author of the article:

Francis Campbell

Published Mar 29, 2025  •  Last updated 3 days ago  •  3 minute read on

  Now what!

There goes her trip to

the city!

There goes her respite!

Bugger this,

just when she finds a great

deal at the Marriott,

clean walk to the casino

Now this

Won’t be able to get across

the bloody bridges

with all the road rage

who knows

 what’s next?

Shouldn’t have taken

away the tolls

Everything was orderly til

this

Who’s gonna pay for the bridge

 maintenance

She is, you are, that’s who

Not for a couple toonies a day neither

Might as well forget the weekend

Who wants to be stuck in traffic

for hours,

The overhead walkway helps

when you get there

BUT

getting there

Who knows ?

Bugger this!

Limerick

There once was a woman from Kentville
Whose life was not very eventful
She risked all for a guy
Who took off like a fly
And left her to sit home resentful

Hunger

She’s hungry
She’s always hungry
You can tell that by  looking
Though one shouldn’t
surmise
There are drugs that make
one “fat”
(she hates the word)
Genetics even
But we digress
She’s hungry
for a good time
A dress-up
tress -up
time
It seems that
doesn’t happen
anymore
Not in her world
She misses the
compliments
They were part of
the scene
Smiles all around
dancing even
Cocktails
She’s hungry
She’s always hungry
and at the rate things
are going
she’ll most likely
starve

Foodie

Foodie too
Too foodie
Eggs Benedict
sticking to hips
Tummy tucked with
layers of crème brûlée
Perpetual guise
 onion rings on thighs
Time for a change
Some confusion
How about
Asian Fusion?
Mediterranean?
Dim sum?
One conclusion
Foodie’s palate
To be subdued
Starting with a
new attitude

The Plan

He was the one
Handsome and entitled
he could have anyone
She would play hard to get
Not clutch his pant leg
as others were prone to do
Not flirt and flatter endlessly
She, the remote one,
would capture his delight
Her mystery would draw him in
Being elusive would beguile him
into her surreptitious snare
He was attentive and obliging
eager to relate
Then married someone else
a damsel in distress
a Cinderella type
She is salty with remorse
how could this be?
That yet again, for her,
“the best laid schemes
o’mice an’ men
gang aft agley”

Why ask?

Why ask the questions?
Am I ready to accept the answers?
What if I discover I’ve been wrong all along?
What if there is no respite in the end?
What if love is really a fantasy?
What if DNA is a lie?
Is it merely a construct built by engaging minds?
Can we really trace who we are?
Or are not?
Do we care?
Aren’t we all in “it” together anyway?

A note:

I want to say to each and everyone I have shared this month of poetry with

Thank You!

Although I didn't manage 30 poems, I enjoyed sharing this time with you.

Caught

She has me by my hind leg
she pulls with determination and grit
she means to pull me up with strength
I meant to lead her down with guile
Her pleasure to imprison me
my terror this should come to be
And thus our fears are intertwined
both fearful of a brackish fate
She wants to stay above the ground
I struggle to be underneath

There you are
Blue eye’in me
Ya cherried yer lips fer me
Ya smiled into my gut

Here I am
Words teamin’ on me tongue
Can’t quite get em out
