Enigmatic

Imagine me
  gamine
a tinge manic
anti-gaming
taming an iceman
in magic meaning
An enigma
I meant it
A magnetic man
acting the gnat
incaging me
an act
a game
I am a gamin
I ignite icemen
I eat magi
I get mine
Amen

Motion to Amend

To the powers that be
(whoever is thee)
This petition to you
For an amendment or two

The heavenly virtues
We’ll leave them  alone
At least ‘till our children
Are all fully grown

There’s a couple of sins
We’d like you to tweak
A minor adjustment
is all that we seek

Lust between spouses
Thee should permit
Without which these partnerships
Surely will split

The next sin is gluttony
here we humbly express
Without it our holidays
could all end in distress

Christmas and Easter,
thanksgiving and such
Just are’t the same
When we don’t eat too much

With penalties lifted
from only these two
Those remaining five
will be easier to chew

Phoenix

Is it a dream?

Those nights when I morph into
a scarlet phoenix

rising from ash
riding the thermals
high into the heavens

Shedding tears
to sooth the desolate
giving hope to multitudes
whose quandary it is to foresee.

Unceasing in empathy
compassion filling the void

onward and upward
to the sun

kindled to ash

beginning again

The Room

This room is the
summation of a
long sojourn
A travelling to
distant shores
The lost arc
never found

The artefacts are
rich with the energy
of reserve and bush
desert and barren plain
Horizons which
stretch forever
enclosing
the known and the
unknown

This small place is
a period at the end
of a sentence

A warm enclosure
for old memories
and dreams

Imagination, Dreaming

Only in my imagination
do I dwell here

contemplating beauty

forgotten senses rise within me,
ancient, from other days,

The scents of tropical forests
poignant and steamy;

The path beckons me forward
to walk
beneath the towering canopy

 spaces alive with birdsong

 the rustling of primates
in the trees

exquisite flowers
blooming

Costa Rica you are calling to me
wouldst that I could answer

Oblivious

In this world of illusion
I tread lightly
leaving no footprints
no scent to be picked up
by marauding packs of
coniferous beasts
hungry for conquest

I lie down in tall, sweet
smelling, blue grass and listen
to the sound of the wind
as it moves over my hiding place
touching me gently
like a mother's kiss on
her child's cheek

I lie quietly feeling the
earth beneath me breathing
with an ancient rhythm
a subtle sweet massage
constant and penetrating

I feel safe
protected
oblivious

Rest in Dreams

I rest in dreams
sleep interrupted
by other lives
Sometimes drifting in the ocean
floating calmly on an endless sea
Sometimes lovers catch me out
oh the bliss of limbs entwined
wanton and careless
unmindful of care
Nightmares too
An angry sea engulfs me
carries me away against my will
Yet somewhere in my heart I know
this too,
a temporary life
and I will be
let go

Nellie's Dream

When Nellie was a young girl she loved to visit the rose arbor in her grandmother's garden. She would sit quietly amidst the sweet fragrant flowers and imagine herself grown and beautiful. Her folded parasol beside her, her gloves folded in her lap, the tiny toes of her laced boots showing from beneath her long skirt. He would walk up the path, so handsome in his riding clothes, and sit down beside her on the bench, accepting her extended hand and gently kissing  the tips of her fingers.

Scent of seduction
Creating dreams within dreams
Power of roses

What to do?

I’ve walked this
street one hundred
times before
breathed deeply
the scent of cherry
blossoms in spring,
the cool fall breeze
has caressed my skin
as fallen leaves rustled
at my feet.
Through winter wonderlands
and summer heat, sultry and
moist,
I have walked here

Then  I met you,
a chance encounter
you were lost, walking down
the wrong street, looking for
the wrong house, not my house;
You smiled at me, reached out
and touched my arm;
Destiny sang, karmic, cosmic,
coincidences collided in colours

of every hue
What to do?

What to do?

Alas #2

Alas
I am
  still
settled in
reading
winter gravestones

Corporeal Knowledge

The bitter taste of
sacrificial wine
the Eucharist of
love
Blasphemy!!
you say
Not so
Not so for the
many who find
in the body
of their
beloved
the elixir
of life.

Winter Gravestones

I am getting older

not too old
but old enough to see
memories in graveyards,
and to ponder,

someone's father who tilled the land
a youth who road a bike on country roads
a farmer's wife who raised chickens

gardens in the fall
winter snow
spring thaw
and how
some things die
while others live forever

if only in our minds

Seasonal Love

Do we come back around
like the seasons?

The rich juices of  Spring
filling our veins with
 old longings?

This time for planting seeds
available only to
ancient souls such as
ourselves.

Summer bringing the
hope of a
rich harvest
Days mellow with
expectation,
waiting
for fruition.

Fall bringing
what?
Not the promised
result?

The fruit is not
sweet enough,
the size is smaller
than desirable,

not the best colour,
not the expected
yield?

What kind of garden
have we left, how
much loss is there?

Winter coming in
with its deep chill,
cold winds blow,
the sun is low on
the horizon

No succor available
for parched egos,
Go away, go away

There is silence
The cold, cold silence
of winter creating a
pall over our
landscape.

Is it death or
hibernation?
Is it over?

 Or
merely, as always,
and to be expected,
the changing of
seasons.

STILL

Not bound
tethered
restricted
in any way
still,
immobile
stuck
mute
still
a mystery,
now unfolding
understood while
 waiting
still
