Decisions

“You've got to jump off cliffs all the time and build your wings on the way down.”  ― Annie Dillard

She sits in awe
 contemplating her next move
overwhelmed by the beauty
surrounding her
she holds tight to the view
her body in stasis
Seeds of thoughts surfacing
decisions, decisions
there is only one way down
- dive -
Or stay forever
slowly becoming a minute particle
of this stunning crag
her precipice
her
choice

  1. "dive / or stay forever". There is something extra ominous in the tone, in the choices... as if the freedom to decide feels like a trap. Then again, I might just be projecting--I've never liked knowing that I can only do one thing or another, with no wiggle room for adjustment.

  2. "Seeds of thoughts surfacing decisions, decisions there is only one way down - dive -" .. I absolutely love the adrenaline rush that these words project for me. There is no in-between, there is only the moment where one makes up his mind and take a leap of faith 💝💝

  4. Ooh, I could feel the painfulness of this decision-making as she worked up to it. Brilliant ending!

  5. I love the way you describe making a choice, Linda, as ‘ dive - Or stay / forever / slowly becoming a minute particle / of this stunning crag’. I’d love to know which she chose.

  6. I remember being at the lip of that precipice, the fear, the leap - and the joy that followed, the ten best years of my life. Thanks for the memory, and this poem.

  7. An amazing piece and so illustrative of the illustration you've chosen. These lines
    "stay forever
    slowly becoming a minute particle
    of this stunning crag
    her precipice
    her
    choice"
So powerful. It is true I think....people must feel on the edge of a precipice in life and death decisions.
