Finali

The bush plane awaits
The tarmac is hot underfoot
I feel the heat through the
soles of my feet
A familiar scorch from
past lives
The breeze an insistent presence
a persistent touch
I’m excited
An adrenaline rush
reddens my cheeks
“There’s no turning back”
the commandant says
“Deaths are many,
reprieves are few.
What have you got to say?”
I walk toward infinity
I don’t look back
“Don’t give up”
I say
“Don’t give up.”

Sit With Me

Free use

“See with your eyes! Listen with your ears! And if you wish to smell the fragrance, press for an explanation of every unresolved matter until your understanding is complete.“
Sen No Rikyu

Come
sit with me
let’s talk
I see how upset
you are
I sense
indifference
It seems only past
intimacies
hold us together
I know that
can’t be
true
I know you
I want to fix
this
This thing
This unresolved
thing
This bad seed
germinating
Let’s blow
our combined breath
upon it
as we would
cool our tea
Let this gulf
dissolve
as the steam rising
from our cups
Come
sit with me
let’s
talk

Spring

Poetry form : Fold

Let Spring be my antidote for pain
from self-sacrificing terrorists with guns
who strike  and maim  and kill  again
My heart bleeds for all the lives we’ve lost
let empathy be my antidote for pain
May sight of flowers blooming of a morn
Reduce the images of all the families slain
As I feel the softness of clover underfoot
I’m  thinking counter measures seem in vain
May I cope with thoughts and not give way to fear
Let courage be my antidote for pain

Ellecee

I am an inveterate troll
pudgy and hoary
grubbing around in my
subterranean hollows
in search of earthy songs,
to begin the first round
in my resounding alto voice
unaware of any who may follow
with the second.
A complaintive tone follows me
my joy lying underground
subdued, but, ever present,
awaiting release
when a summer sun's warmth
invades
my hollows

My preferred definition of a troll :-)
".a troll is a supernatural creature with a body of any size, closely associated with nature, who likely eats fish, moves around a lot and often in circles in a regular range, who sings a great deal, often in praise and celebration (of each other or Earth herself), but always loudly and without inhibition, in complex cycles in close cooperation with other such creatures, in rolling voices, with all eventually signing different parts of the song at the same time, probably driving everyone who doesn't want to listen to them completely nuts. This is the generic troll" Troll

Meetings

"You look young for your age"
he says and
She laughs out loud
and says
"not really"
and then he wonders
what she means and
he's not sure now
if they should meet
after all
but if he says so
what will his excuse be?
since he's been acting
so eager
and then she says
"are you there?"
and he says
"Yeah
how about the Sylvia
on Sunday
at three"

Cast a Light

Withdrawing, withdrawing,
desiring respite in seclusion
Days drifting, drifting, drifting on
all of life a pitiful illusion
Thinking, thinking, thinking, dark ‘til dawn
Seeming sudden, shadows cast a light
that only poignant dreaming could ignite
“it is never, ever, to late to mend”
even as a journey nears its end

Aging

Oh, the play and all the staging
set for aging, aging, aging
Director to the actors paging
come forth on stage and do your part
enable life to create art
Oh, the play and all the staging
set for aging, aging, aging
thin of hair and memory fading
frail of limb, body degrading
Oh, the play and all the staging
set for aging, aging, aging
Thoughts of life with some dejection
not ready soon for more reflection
Oh, the play and all the staging
set for aging, aging, aging
Not to be spared the day of reckoning
I fear the reapers call comes
beckoning, beckoning,
Oh, life's play and all its staging
set for aging
aging
aging

Destiny

In a heartbeat life changes
clouds  roll in and showers fall
a child is struck by a car
someone wins a lottery
love appears, disappears,
we seem so lost
and found

In a heartbeat the world changes
Earthquakes come and leave their mark
rain forests die,
we weep
A new Pacific island rises from the sea
we walk together
seeing

In a heartbeat she changes
the good things become bad
then the bad things become good
She anticipates a warmer world
then finds it remains the same
again

In a heartbeat we are renewed
though issues remain the same
we accept
and like the phoenix
we rise again,
move forward,
meet our destiny
unarmed

Intuition

What is real?
If there is anything at all
it might be found in thoughts
of wishes unfulfilled or
scattered days of old
or a future ready to unfold
and when we are aware if
we are bold
we can always go
and
make those wishes
 so

First Life

From city to seaside
the youngest of 12
Often lost in the menagerie
Pleased when alone
Unnoticed if well behaved
brought down heavily when
not
Our Mother with to many chores
to be caught
and a father who almost lost
himself in wars
And yet
friends were fed tomato soup
and grilled cheese
Then left alone to our gossip
and giggles;
Then too
the smell of baked bread
chicken on Sunday
cream of wheat
Star fish on the beach
high tides and sand fleas
Then
follow the rule

"out of the house by 16"

No exceptions
face forward
to
life number two

Real Toads  ~ Where do I Come From?

Day 25

Woman

Who's heart is it anyway?
that lives to breath another day
and somehow finds another course
with out succumbing to remorse

To grow compassion without fight
does love conquer the swords of might?
or naivety cloud the mind?
so other's plights leave us blind

Is that sword mightier than the fist?
or can we find another twist
a way to serve by standing by
to pick up survivors on the fly

Lay down the anger and the angst
the confusion between for and against
which twists and turns in every case
and friends take on the enemy's face

She'll wait and watch and surely see
the meaning of her discovery
and take her stand by peaceful means
to rectify ill begotten schemes

Do Not Despair

Do not despair if love is naught
It will arrive with timing right
and then you will be surely caught

Continue whining, you must not
your days are wasted if you're tright
Do not despair if love is naught

Things hide away the more they're sought
Behave as if  a delightful sprite
and then you will be surely caught

I know this isn't how you thought
you've made sadness your only plight
Do not despair that love is naught

Heed this advice to you I've brought
negative illusions you must fight
and then you will be surely caught

Have you listened to what I've taught?
To be charming and forever bright?
Do not despair that love is naught
and then you will be surely caught

If I Was Never Born

If I was never born
who would love you?
Who would care for you,
keep your body warm on cold nights,
walk and talk with you on sunny days.
Bless you with beautiful children
who make you proud and bring
joy to your heart
every day
Who would you turn to for solace.
for passion, for succor?
Who would you argue with,
debate life’s issues with,
win battles for and against?
Who would hold you, defend you,
stand by you?
If I was never born
who would love you

as I do?

Returning

I have run amuck
in days unladen
with inspiration
Duty called my feet
to walk in old tracks
riddled with fresh
angst
I stopped
to listen
and
there was the voice
of reason
calling me
home

A Missed Engagement

She:  you lied to me in September

He:   my dear I don't remember

She:  you said we would wed in spring

He:    I don't remember a thing

She:   you promised our love forever

He:    now that would be an endeavor

She:   are you mocking me now, kind Sir?

He:    no, my mind's a bit of a blur

She:   then you never meant a word

He:    I'm sorry, this is absurd

She:   then leave me now, you swine

He:    madame, the pleasure is mine
