Her Poems

What are they about?

Her poems.

Anything/Everything

Her muse floats.

On murky days

She writes fears,

On lonely days

She writes tears,

On happy days

She writes laughter and smiles

settled for awhile,

On prompt days

she queries everything,

foraging for adjectives,

metaphors, and such.

In point of fact

she spends most of her days

grubbing and grubbing,

Foraging for mind food

Inspiration from
25. Yeah, sure, but what are your poems about?
Think about the landscape of your writing/poetry
and make a list of what you’re doing or trying to
do then turn that list into a poem.

Why I Write

I am an introvert

I live,primarily, in

my head

I have difficulty

communicating

Socialization is not

my strong point

Not something I was

taught as a child,

or discovered later

Still and all,  living thoughts

demand liberation

They chastise me

So, I write them down

and look at them

exposed to light

Some of them frighten me,

or enlighten me, or make me

listen, or make me see

Out in the open they often

pose a question

in order to quiz me

Some become a story told,

most birth poetry

Some I release to others,

strangers mostly

Family are iffy, though

no judgement is there

Sometimes I stop

but never for very long,

and

Those I can’t bear to share,

I scribble

secretly

The Power of Poetry

With your language

synthesize the

vagaries of life

until they become

comprehensible

cogent

compelling

empathetic

succinct

Write poetry

See your feelings,

hopes, and dreams

personified

Your fears, demons,

misunderstandings,

recognized

See compassion,

community,

empathy,

mutuality

Read Poetry

Understand the

compelling

power of the written,

spoken and deciphered

language,

the singularity

 that is poetry

Inuendo

The pungent scent of
cherry blossoms
dissipates as she leaves
the park
She’s been reflecting
Innuendo has it that she
has lost again
The old refrain repeated
over and over
She could almost
feel nostalgic
“Unlucky at love”
“bitter and aging”
She smiles
Almost benevolent
toward gossips who
can’t perceive
her joys repeated
again and again
Because of her courage
to flow
and grow
and
let go

Morning Walk

We are taking our
morning walk early
We meet the homeless
being herded off the beach
and out of the park
before the tourists awake
We walk along the quay
past yachts that never leave
their berths - tourist attractions.
We sit on a bench at the
end of the wharf
A small respite
The sun has risen over the horizon
Creating a sky the colour of magnolias
The lake smooth as a pond
A pair of osprey are fishing
They float with the thermals
then dive down beneath the surface
returning seconds later with a catch
A sailboat drifts slowly
across the lake
We can stay here as we wish
Neither tourist or homeless
Neither herded or courted
With gratitude
We rest

Little Death

“And as to you Life I reckon you are the leavings of many deaths,

(No doubt I have died myself ten thousand times before”
Walt Whitman - Leaves of Grass

“I have died myself ten thousand times”
I cannot remember them all
I chose not to
I regret the choice
As some were spectacular, noisy, chaotic,
Worthy of memory if only as caution
for the next,
Others were lamentable,
love stories with sad endings
Stealing away , giving up the ghost
Why remember them?
Caution again
So what of this one?
Ten thousand and one?
Or THE one
No chaos, no noise, no sad endings,
no fear, no expectation, no remorse,
Lying down with a heavy sigh,
feeling the earth undulating,
feeling sated, ragged,
indolent
still

 Where she walks
lovers have followed
with varying degrees of
angst, lore, and past tense
Contrails against
a clear blue sky
Fading fast
into
oblivion

Thaw

“Thaw with his gentle persuasion is more powerful than Thor with his hammer” The one melts, the other breaks in pieces”

Henry David Thoreau

She is reminded of past loves
Her own
The one suffused with romance
 bitter sweet
Days of sunshine
Little thunder
Two lives blending
then gently melting away
Ice in a crystal glass
Then on into a storm
Monsoons destroying
sacred springs
Tempestuous hours of lust
followed quickly with days
of bitterness and disdain
Blown apart
leaving only splenetic
regret
The first morphing into
gossamer dreams
The last
the last

Endured

“Still here I carry my old delicious burdens”
Walt Whitman - Leaves of Grass

Deep within her anatomy
her past lives on
No heartbreak
 wasted
No joy
 dissipated
No illness completely
healed
Unbidden they reveal
themselves
Events rise up as from
mist
Old feelings come alive
within shoulders, belly, or
spine,
Shaken awake
Enough for tears, smiles, or
fear
Over time incidents
mellow,
become part of her
being
“old delicious burdens”
Endured

Preserved

Write me a letter

Let the cursive forms

seep into the paper

A message that lasts

forever,

or at least a decade

I've seen such letters,

preserved over time

in tin boxes

Hidden in trunks

stored in attics

There are few attics

anymore,

or storage trunks

either, if you think

about such things

Your letter will be

preserved over time

In a wooden cigar

box

for at least a decade

Caught in memory

Unobserved

Remembrance Day

The world wars

She doesn’t remember them

But she is not without empathy

The eulogies move her

Her wars were different

Fights for self-hood

Battles fought on so-called

Neutral ground

Nothing - no one -

Is neutral

We think we are

It’s an illusion

She stood her ground

Though knocked about

At times -  without mercy

Battles won and lost

She has escaped into old age

Now the battle fields

Lie fallow

And so does she
