Letter to a Soldier

She should have written

long ago - she didn’t

Now she writes to a dead man

“better late than never”

Dear Dad

I didn’t know you were

a soldier,

In a  war, yes, but

not the reality of it.

You never talked to me

Not only about your

war, but nothing else either

You were a stranger, the patriarch,

No familiarity

Rules, rules, rules,

Never spoken, how did I know

what to do, not to do,

I just knew

I’ve learned you were

damaged

Buried alive in the trenches,

not once, twice,

You survived, either with

help or determination,

I don’t know

The damage I saw but

never understood

The weeping, the nightmares,

The weeping you could hide,

but not the night terrors,

not the hospital committals,

not the estrangement

How could I have known you?

What could I have done?

Tell me if you will

I want to understand

how all of your withholding

benefitted any one but you

I’m sorry too

Yours truly

one daughter

Hibernate

What can I do?

What I can’t do is
elementary
FrustrationI am not a politician or
a person of power
A delegated one who
changes circumstances
Is that what
delegates do?
I can’t or I don’t want
to understand
Ebrahim Raisi
Isaac Herzog
Or any other combatants
willing to lay waste
I can’t change the
deep despondency
proliferating among us
like another plague
And so on
and so on
What can “I” do?
Hibernate

Let Go

“MY IMMORTAL,” WRITTEN BY BEN MOODY.

Let go

I, too, am tired of being here
You’re holding way past time for letting go
You don’t look forward but only behind
Lost tears, lost fears, all gone,
No hand to hold
Wake up you ARE alone
I want to fly, have my release
from all past pain and sacrifice
I’ve earned my peace
and so have you
Let go the pain, let go your fears
let go regret, life is yours to take
You must understand it’s
you who’s holding on
You are the only one in my way
Your way
Give up, give in, sweep everything
clean, start anew,
I want to fly, I want to soar,
I want to hear the music, see
the light, if such exist
I may never know
 while tethered here
I’ll over rule your life
and you are stealing my awakening
Now you are enlightened,
Now you know
So let me go

Simple

“Would that it were so simple”
from: Hail Caesar! (2016)

“Come away with me”
He implored
“Come now, don’t wait
another day.
What holds you here
are burdens not
your own, causing sorrow,
loss of your life
Come away with me.
We will go where our only
companions will be
soft winds, sun, and ocean waves,
or if you will, let it be the
mountains, rising above
all agonies.
In craggy cabins we will
shelter against any storm
Don’t turn away, look
into my eyes and see
my need for you
close to me
Our precious days lived lightly
 with passions held at bay
Our nights entwined in
lovers’ heat, that only
you and I can make”

My response is tempered
by my strings, my sorrow,
my fate

“What dreams you dream
on our account, what fantasies
you weave so beautifully.
But I am bound and you, you
are free, free”

“Come away with me,
let go the bonds, let be,
just come,
how much more simple
could it be?”

Sweet Madness

A life continues

released from consequences
Sorrow is sweet madness
